Wednesday night’s Cubs vs. Rangers game at Wrigley postponed
The Cubs’ game against the Texas Rangers Wednesday night has been postponed by rain, and no makeup date has been scheduled yet. Wednesday’s scheduled starter for the Cubs, right-hander Carlos Villanueva, has been backed up to Thursday, with the rest of the rotation also staying in order heading into the weekend’s three-game series at Milwaukee: Jeff Samardzija, Edwin Jackson and Scott Feldman. The Cubs lost 4-2 to the Rangers in the series opener Tuesday and are scheduled to finish the series with a 1:20 p.m. game Thursday, with more rain in the forecast. …

Cubs’ rally in 9th falls short vs. Rangers, A.J. Pierzynski
For all the talk of Wrigley Field renovations, the first thing former White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski noticed Tuesday was something from the past — the ‘‘AC’’ sign on a Sheffield Avenue rooftop noting how long the Cubs have gone without a World Series championship. ‘‘I’m just happy they put the sign back up in right center field,’’ Pierzynski said. ‘‘I’m not going to lie. They took it down [last year] and I was really disappointed because I always liked looking at that sign. That was my favorite sign.’’ Pierzynski and the Rangers found their view even better after surviving …

Tragedy hits close to home as Theo Epstein’s twin brother ran Boston Marathon
The bombings in Boston Monday sent shock waves through the Cubs’ front offices, where several executives have strong ties to New England, including Boston native Theo Epstein. “All my thoughts are with my hometown, the people of Boston,” the Cubs’ team president said before Tuesday’s series opener against the Texas Rangers – and against the backdrop of heightened security efforts at the ballpark in the wake of Monday’s deadly events at the Boston Marathon. Epstein’s twin brother Paul ran the Boston Marathon, finishing about 45 minutes before the first explosion, Theo said. “My brother had actually called me right after …

Cubs make multiple roster moves; Sveum still not sold on one closer
The Cubs announced a flurry of roster moves before Tuesday’s series opener against the Texas Rangers, including big changes for their bullpen. Former Cubs closer Kevin Gregg and reliever Kameron Loe, both of whom were acquired over the weekend, were added to the roster and joined the bullpen Tuesday. Left-hander Hisanori Takahashi was designated for assignment, and right-hander Rafael Dolis was optioned to AAA Iowa to make room on the 25-man roster. Manager Dale Sveum said the bullpen moves don’t change the ninth inning for him. He still doesn’t consider anyone in the pen his closer and plans to close …
